Climbing the Walls at Leura

At the suggestion of a friend I took my 4 year old along one Sunday afternoon to the Leura Climbing Wall. There’s ‘nothing about climbing that she doesn’t know about’ (a direct quote), but even she was impressed. Once harnessed up and roped on by the helpful staff she was free to work off the post lunch sleep. With me belaying and occasionally assisting the ascent we had a fun afternoon pushing some pre-school boundaries. Some routes are harder than others but the high rotation of climbers meant we didn’t have long to wait for something suitable. You won’t be there for hours as it’s focused, energetic work, but roll in a milkshake as well to get that ‘Good Dad’ feeling. Entry is $8 for under 11’s and harness prices are $4, making it a reasonable $12 excursion. Shoes and other gear are also available for hire but are unnecessary for kids (especially for my diminutive professional).

Also one for the after schoolers on a Monday, Wednesday & Friday night are Junior Climbing Nights from 4-6pm. $5 for under 11’s, $8 for 11-16 – and it includes harness hire. Must be a casual member. The centre has a climbing section and bouldering area’ and caters for birthday parties and the like. It’s tucked away behind The Mall, entry and parking is from Quinns Avenue, (off Megalong St into Wascoe St).

More information on both the Leura and Penrith venues is available at  www.theclimbing centre.com.au

I just was wondering is my 3 year old allowed to climb. I saw the fees applied to under 11s. Have you got a new contact number, as the one in this ad says it is disconnected.

    Hi,
I work for a disability organisation in Penrith NSW and would like to bring a small group of clients with disabilities aged 8 to 17 years old, none are in wheelchairs on Friday the 9th of December? This will enable them to come and try their hand at Rock climbing. Could you please advise the cost to our clients and carers/staff to support them.
Also they may not arrive until 6.30pm is this okay?
