Pigs, Pots and Spaceships

The Great Western Highway, aka our lifeline to Sydney, is currently undergoing major upgrade works at a number of locations. Whilst visitors to the mountains may experience a few, hopefully minor delays due to these works, for us locals the completion of the roadworks really can’t come soon enough.

I would personally like to thank Wentworth Falls Pots for injecting a bit of humor into this painful process. Each time I travel past their shop on the highway a new installation of uber realistic fibreglass animals is making its way to the barricades as if to view the human’s strange shenanigans. Pigs, sheep and cows to name but a few, are artfully posed on a daily basis by shop manager Daniel Loesch.

If you are into a bit of kitsch, or perhaps just need to break the drive, it is well worth a wander into this mountains icon. Apart from the animals and the endless pots there is currently an amazing welded steel spacecraft on display. The spacecraft is a novel and unique interpretation of the traditional cubby house, that kids are made welcome to explore.

The detail inside the ship is truly impressive – seats, benches, vents, operable hatches – lots of fun for young aspiring astronauts/aliens. The owners keep the identity of the designer strictly under wraps, but they would say it is by a non Chinese, China based designer…intriguing!

Wentworth Falls Pots is located on the corner of The Great Western Highway and Tablelands Road, Wentworth Falls- just look for the pigs! It is open 9:30am-5:00pm Wed-Sun.
